Conscious Living #28: Connection Beats Perfection, The Depression Divide and Lessons from a Hairpin

🌿 Conscious Living – April 2026

Another month has come and gone, and I trust you continue to move through life consciously.

This month I found myself using the holiday period to reflect more intentionally on the “in-between” meanings and lessons we so often overlook. It was a chance to reconnect with the importance of keeping our hearts open when life feels less than perfect, recognising fresh beginnings within endings, finding meaning in setbacks, and showing up for ourselves with clarity and intention.

A conversation with a client also inspired me to share some insight into the sense of disconnection that depression can bring—why it happens, and how we can begin, gently and practically, to step away from that cycle.

April also marked the final step in my journey through The Artist’s Way. It has been an energising and eye-opening experience, filled with themes and lessons that I look forward to carrying forward and sharing with you.

And speaking of sharing—keep an eye on my social media for an exciting announcement coming soon. A small hint: “She is Awakened.” 😉

I’ll leave you with one final reflection from the month:
Sometimes, it’s only when we stop searching and allow ourselves to let go that we find what we truly need.

Good Friday Lessons

Good Friday invited us to sit with a story of love expressed through sacrifice… a love that stayed, even in the face of pain, misunderstanding, and deep vulnerability.

It reminds us that connection isn’t found in perfect moments – it’s built in the ones that feel hardest to hold.

Maybe that’s the invitation for us too.
To soften the need to get it “right.”
To release the pressure of perfect parenting, perfect partnerships, perfect selves.

And instead, to lean into connection – even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s messy.

Connection looks like:
✨ Repairing after conflict
✨ Expressing what’s true for you, even when it feels vulnerable
✨ Staying present when it’s easier to withdraw
✨ Choosing understanding over being right
✨ Allowing space for both your truth and another’s

Perhaps the practice is simple (but not always easy):
Stay connected. Stay open. Stay human.

Because it’s in the imperfection… that real connection lives.

Easter Eggs for Thought…

Not everything that breaks is the end.

Easter reminds us of this:
what looks like loss… can become life.
what feels like an ending… can be a beginning.

Just like an egg a when it cracks from the outside, life ends… but when it breaks from within, new life begins.

But not without something being surrendered first.

So the question isn’t just about renewal – it’s this:

What are you still holding onto that needs to be laid down for something new to rise?

After the Easer break, we explored how easing into routine after a break may be tempting to drift into the week looking for validation, direction, or energy from the outside in.

But here’s the reframe:
What if the week wasn’t about who wants you, what validates you or waiting for the week to go your way…
but rather about what YOU’D choose?

Because when you start “hungry,”
you don’t choose well –
you choose fast. Easy. Empty.

Easter reminded us – life doesn’t begin when something breaks us from the outside…
it begins when something shifts within.

So instead of entering the week “hungry,”
Arrive full … with intention, clarity, and self-trust.
– Choose how you show up
– Choose what matters
– Choose the energy you bring

Don’t let the week decide you.
Decide the week.

Have you been feeling somewhat ‘checked out’ from life? 🔌

Sharing a reflection from a client session on …
depression and disconnection.

A gentle question to hold:
Where might you have unplugged from your life… and what would it look like to slowly plug back in?

It’s important to understand the cycle that often keeps depression in place – and how we begin to gently shift it.

It’s not about doing everything at once.
It’s about small, intentional steps back into life 🤍

After speaking about “unplugging from life” and the cycles we can get stuck in…

This feels like an important reminder:

We don’t always get to choose our circumstances…
but there is often a space between where we’ve been and where we’re going.

And in that space – there is choice 🤍

⏱️ We schedule responsibilities.
What if we also scheduled joy? 🎠

Earlier we explored how low mood can deepen when we disconnect.

One gentle way to begin plugging back in is through intentional planning. In fact, one of the first ways I often work with clients to help them re-engage with life is to start planning their weeks with more intention.

Many people plan tasks, deadlines, school runs, meetings…
but forget to plan what nourishes them.

As we move into the new month, it may be helpful to reflect on how you’d like to support yourself:
– What can I schedule that lifts me?
– What feels simple and doable?
– Where can pleasure sit alongside responsibility?
– What would help me feel more connected to life?

Sometimes healing can begin in your diary. 🤍

🎨 Unleashing My Inner Creator

Image from Conscious Living #28: Connection Beats Perfection, The Depression Divide and Lessons from a Hairpin

In January I began The Artist’s Way for the second time – a continued journey back to creativity, truth, and the parts of ourselves that often get buried beneath responsibility, fear, and self-doubt.

Earlier this month, I reached the final page.

This prayer feels like a beautiful reminder that creativity is not reserved for a gifted few – it lives within all of us.

It asks us to trust, to surrender old stories, to welcome growth, and to create not from perfection, but from wholeness.

Wherever you are on your own path, may this be a gentle reminder: it is not too late, you are not too small, and there is still something beautiful waiting to be expressed through you.✨

This week, consider making space for one small creative moment – and plug a little more life back in.

Is this me, or a template?

Have you ever stopped to notice whether your thoughts and beliefs are truly your own… or simply something you’ve inherited?

What we often call “truth” can sometimes be a collection of what we heard growing up, what we observed, and what we experienced along the way. Over time, these become the lens through which we see ourselves, others, and life itself.

There’s a story I recently came across in The Secrets of a Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker that illustrates this beautifully. A simple habit passed down through generations – never questioned – until its original reason was finally discovered.

It’s a gentle reminder that we don’t always pause to ask why we think or do certain things.

Perhaps this is an invitation to reflect:
What am I repeating without questioning it?
And is this still true for me now?

Sometimes awareness begins right there.

This month also saw us celebrating National Flag Day, we were reminded that every nation, like every person, holds many layers.

There is beauty, pride, culture, peace, and the richness of identity.
There is also pain, struggle, unanswered questions, and areas calling for healing and growth.

Conscious living invites us to hold both truths at once.
– To celebrate what is good without becoming blind.
– To acknowledge what is difficult without losing hope.
– To honour heritage while remaining open to growth.
– To love where we come from, while courageously contributing to where we are going.

Real progress begins when awareness meets responsibility.

May we continue to choose compassion, wisdom, justice, unity, and conscious action in the spaces we each can influence.

A brighter future is built not only by leaders, but by the consciousness of its people.

Trust & Let Go🤍

Image from Conscious Living #28: Connection Beats Perfection, The Depression Divide and Lessons from a Hairpin

This message is for anyone who may need to hear it at the moment:

The other day, I was searching everywhere for a hairpin … in the bathroom, bedroom, drawers, all the usual places. I rarely even use one, and frustration started rising as I was about to give up.

At that same moment, I was listening to an audiobook. In the story, a man looked up and asked, “Is anybody there to help me?” And the response came:

“Yes, I am here to help you. Just trust and let go.”

As those exact words played, I looked down at my side table… and there was a single hairpin.

I don’t know whether it had been there all along and I simply hadn’t noticed it, or whether life has its own mysterious ways of speaking to us.
But what I do know is that it felt like the message I needed in that moment.

Something inside me softened.
Everything I had been trying to control loosened.
There was space again.

Sometimes the smallest moments carry the deepest reminders:
– You do not have to hold everything so tightly.
– You do not have to solve everything today.
– There is wisdom, grace, and support beyond what you can currently see.

So if you are reading this today, may this be your synchronicity:
Trust.
Let go.
What is meant for you will meet you.

Let go of the need to force what is not flowing.

What is aligned will move with ease. 🤍
