Have you heard of the term LANGUISHING?
Well I recently experienced it … and when I shared this feeling with a loved one, their response was that they believed most of society is languishing, including themselves!
The term languishing was coined by a sociologist named Corey Keyes, who was struck that many people who weren’t depressed also weren’t thriving.
Languishing is deemed ´the neglected middle child of mental health. It’s the void between depression and flourishing — the absence of well-being.
In psychology, we think about mental health on a spectrum from depression to flourishing. Flourishing is the peak of well-being: You have a strong sense of meaning, mastery and mattering to others. Depression is the valley of ill-being: You feel despondent, drained and worthless.
We all know that life isn’t always smooth sailing. Whether it’s work stress, personal challenges, or unexpected curveballs, we all face moments when things feel a little too much to handle. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to go through it alone, and you don’t have to navigate it without the right tools.
I recently took some time out and attended a seminar I was really interested in. I found that this resource somehow booted me out of my sense of languishing – enough to get the engine started and motivation rumbling again. And it reminded me of the importance of RESOURCES ! And of course I was called to share a lesson on resources with you.
