A shared reflection …
For those of you who live in Eswatini, and especially for those who frequent Ezulwini, you may have noticed a little while ago that the speed bumps were removed that were placed in between Corner Plaza and Cuddle Puddle. Other than an intense Hallelujah for one less speed bump in Eswatini, I found myself for the longest time continually still breaking every time I would get to the spot. Despite the speed bumps no longer being there, my brain and body had already been trained to habitually break at that point. Anyone find they did the same thing?
It got me wondering, how many habits, reactions, thoughts have been trained and engrained in us that we habitually respond to in our daily lives, not because the situation still calls for it but simply because it’s what we have been doing for a lengthy period of time.
A further reflection was that it is possible that this mirrors how we still see obstacles or challenges where the obstacle or challenge is in fact no longer there. It has passed and yet our brains and bodies want to behave in ways that believe it still exists.
So I nudge you to reflect on where you may be reacting habitually to someone or something when in fact it is no longer relevant or necessary?
And where in your life might you still be holding onto a situation or challenge that has passed that no longer serves you to hold onto?
Consider making a commitment to yourself to begin to respond intentionally and differently to the person or situation that you are automatically reacting to from a past and unhelpful place. Choose a response that is Fair, Factual, Freeing and reflects Faith that you are building a life that feels good … And make a commitment to working on the art of LETTING GO.
